But you know it matters. You've seen the star ratings, cooking times, and FAQs that dominate the search results when a site has it. Unfortunately, getting there means figuring out which schema type fits your content, writing valid JSON-LD, and hoping you formatted it correctly. It's enough to make most people skip it entirely.

👉 That's why we decided to fix it in AIOSEO 4.9.6.

The new AI Schema Generator takes care of the hard parts: figuring out what schema you need, writing the code, and even validating it with Google's Rich Results tool. A few clicks, and you're done.

[NEW] AI Schema Generator: Add Structured Data to Any Page Without Writing Code

Let's start with a quick explanation of what schema markup actually does, because it's worth understanding before you start generating it.

When you add schema to a page, you're giving search engines a structured way to understand your content. Not just “this is a blog post about recipes” — but “this is a recipe, the author is X, the prep time is 20 minutes, the rating is 4.7 stars, and the first step is Y.”

That level of detail is what earns featured snippets and rich results, like the one below.

The problem has always been that generating valid schema markup required either technical knowledge or a lot of copying and pasting. AIOSEO has long offered our Schema Catalog, but 4.9.6 takes it further by letting AI do the heavy lifting.

Smart Schema: The AI Figures Out What You Need

If you're not sure which schema type fits your page, Smart Schema is where to start.

Open the Schema tab on your post or page, click Generate Schema, and choose Smart Schema. AIOSEO's AI reads your content (the title, body copy, the context of what you've written) and recommends the most appropriate schema types for it.

A recipe post gets Recipe schema (helpful for those recipe rich snippets that are so popular in food search). A product page gets Product schema. A how-to guide gets HowTo. The AI makes the call based on what you've already written.

You see the recommendations with expandable previews of the actual markup. All you have to do is pick the schemas you want, and click Add Schema.

There's also a “Test with Google” button that opens your page in the Rich Results tool so you can validate everything before it goes live.

Prompt-Based Schema: Tell It Exactly What You Want

If you already know what schema type you need, skip Smart Schema and go straight to Prompt-Based.

In this method, you type a description of what you want. Something like: “Create an FAQ schema with 5 questions about WordPress security” or “Generate LocalBusiness schema for a dental practice in Chicago.”

The AI builds the structured data based on your prompt, which is especially useful for specialized schema types or when Smart Schema's recommendation doesn't quite match what you had in mind.

How to Use the AI Schema Generator

1. Open any post or page in the WordPress editor.
2. Scroll to AIOSEO Settings and click the Schema tab.
3. Click Generate Schema to open the modal.
4. Go to the AI Schema tab.
5. Choose Smart Schema (AI analyzes your content) or Prompt-Based Schema (you describe what you need).
6. Click Generate, the button shows your credit cost before you commit.
7. Review the suggested schemas, expand them to see the actual markup, and test with Google.
8. Check the schemas you want and click Add Schema.

👉 If schema has been sitting on your to-do list because it felt too technical, this is the version that makes it accessible.

[NEW] AI Bulk Actions: Fill SEO Gaps Across Your Entire Site

This next one is exciting because it's free for all users. Yep, even those on Lite.

With AI Bulk Actions, you can generate SEO titles, meta descriptions and image alt text in bulk — at once. No more digging through old content to optimize metadata post by post.

It's faster, smarter, and totally free for any user who has AI credits. This means that even if you haven't upgraded to Pro, you can still start using AI to work through your SEO backlog.

Bulk SEO Titles and Meta Descriptions

If you have a site with dozens or hundreds of posts and patchy metadata, this is the feature to use first.

Go to the All Posts screen for any post type, select the posts you want to update using the checkboxes, and open the Bulk Actions dropdown. You'll see two new options: 

1. Generate SEO Titles with AI
2. Generate Meta Descriptions with AI

Choose one, and click Apply.

AIOSEO will generates metadata for every post you selected.

For SEO titles and meta descriptions, you get multiple suggestions per post, so you're not stuck with one option you don't love.

This is a huge time-saver if you have a lot of content with empty metadata. It's also great for performing a quick and easy SEO audit across older content.

Image Alt Text for Your Entire Media Library

The bulk AI toolset covers images too. Head to the WordPress Media Library, select the images you want to update, and choose Generate Alt Text for Images with AI from the bulk actions dropdown.

AIOSEO analyzes each image and writes descriptive alt text. You can do this across your full library in one go, or tackle images individually as you upload new content.

For anyone uploading images with filenames like “screenshot-0312.jpg” and skipping the alt text field, this is a fast way to close a gap that affects both SEO and accessibility.

[IMPROVED] Notes Field in Redirects: Context for Every Redirect You Create

This one's a smaller update, but if you've ever stared at a 50-row list trying to remember why you added a redirect, you'll appreciate it.

Redirects now include an optional Comment field in the creation form. When you're setting up a new redirect, there's a spot to write a note explaining why it exists. For example, you might note a URL migration, a seasonal campaign, or any other reason for the change.

The note shows up as a hoverable icon in your redirect list so it doesn't clutter the view. You can also go back and add or edit notes on existing redirects at any time.

In addition to being helpful for small businesses, this small change is a big win for agencies and teams managing redirects across client sites. Context matters in these scenarios and can make the difference between “I'm afraid to delete this” and “I know exactly what this was for.”

This eliminates the need to manually search for issues within your content, drastically reducing the time and effort required to address SEO errors. It’s like having a personal SEO assistant guiding you to the exact spot that needs attention, each and every time.

Alternatively, you can click Ignore if the issue isn’t a priority. This will hide it from the audit results for that URL.

All Checks View: Systematic Issue Resolution

For those who prefer a more systematic approach to SEO optimization, our All Checks view groups pages by the specific SEO issues that affect them. 

I like that it groups results by Issues, Warnings, and Good. This helps me see at a glance what needs to be dealt with immediately, what isn’t urgent, and elements that I’ve optimized well.

Resolving issues is also super easy. Simply click on an issue, and this opens a modal displaying every affected URL, along with more detailed information about the issue itself.

AIOSEO 4.8.0 is here, and I’m so excited to introduce advanced tools to fine-tune your website’s crawlability, prevent unwanted indexing, and improve performance. 

Let’s dive into what’s new.

Crawl Cleanup Supercharged

Keeping your site’s crawl data clean is crucial for SEO and performance. We’ve upgraded our Crawl Cleanup feature with smarter controls. I’m really excited about these as they give you greater control over how search engines crawl your site.

Here are some of the key highlights:

Internal Site Search Cleanup

Websites often generate unnecessary URLs from internal searches, leading to wasted crawl budgets and potential spam. 

With this update, we’ve given you the power to control this. Now you can:

• Set a maximum character limit for search queries, preventing bloated search URLs.
• Automatically filter out emojis and special characters to avoid cluttered or nonsensical search terms.
• Block common spam patterns, keeping junk searches from creating unnecessary indexable URLs.

Left unmanaged, site search can cause more harm than it benefits you

Redirect Pretty URLs to Raw Formats

Another powerful feature we added to Crawl Cleanup is the ability to redirect pretty URLs to raw formats. 

Just so we’re on the same page, let’s quickly define these 2 types of URL:

• Pretty URLs: These are user-friendly and SEO-friendly URLs that are easy to read and remember. For example, example.com/search/example is a pretty URL for a search query.
• Raw URLs: These are more basic and typically include query parameters directly in the URL. For example, example.com/?s=example is a raw URL for the same search query.

Redirecting pretty URLs to raw formats ensures that search result URLs are structured consistently, reducing duplicate pages and keeping your site’s SEO in check.

Prevent Crawling of Internal Site Search URLs

Internal search pages don’t need to be indexed. Unfortunately, when search engines find them, they still crawl them. However, with AIOSEO 4.8.0, Crawl Cleanup automatically adds disallow rules to your robots.txt to prevent search engines from crawling search-related URLs. 

This includes URLs such as:

• ?s= (WordPress default search query parameter)
• /search/
• /page/*/?s=

By blocking these, you avoid unnecessary crawl requests and keep search engines focused on your key content.

Block Unwanted Bots

Ever wished you could block unwanted bots from crawling your site?

Bot traffic can easily overload your server and hurt performance. That’s why we decided to give you full control of which bots can crawl your site. 

With AIOSEO 4.8.0, you can:

• Block all unwanted bots or select which ones to restrict for more control over your crawl budget.
• Primarily target AI crawlers, preventing them from indexing your content without permission.
• Protect your content from unauthorized AI training.
• Reduce server resource usage, ensuring bots don’t slow down your site.

These changes will modify your robots.txt file, adding disallow directives for the chosen bots. To avoid errors, AIOSEO will display a yellow alert so you can review and track updates. 

These bot-blocking settings are now built directly into the robots.txt editor to make management easier.

Improved Query Arg Monitor

Tracking parameters like UTM tags are essential for analytics. Unfortunately, they also have some SEO implications that can impact your performance. For one, they create duplicate URLs, which can negatively impact SEO. Our updated Query Arg Monitor helps fix this by optimizing UTM parameters.

AIOSEO now automatically replaces ?utm_ parameters with #utm_ equivalents via a 301 redirect. For example:
https://example.com/?utm_medium=organic redirects to https://example.com/#utm_medium=organic

Why does this matter?

• Prevents duplicate URLs in search results.
• Saves server resources since # fragments aren’t sent to the server.
• Keeps tracking intact while improving SEO efficiency.

While query args are useful, they can create SEO and performance issues if not managed properly. This is why properly managing them is essential—it gives you the usefulness of query args without having to sacrifice SEO performance.

Our Keyword Rank Tracker has received a major upgrade, giving you deeper insights and better control over your keyword strategy.

See Related Keywords

One of the coolest features added to our already powerful Keyword Rank Tracker is the Related Keywords tab. This lets you see suggested terms for the keywords you’re already tracking. 

To do this, simply navigate to the Keyword Rank Tracker and click on any keywords to expand the row. You will get 8 to 9 keyword suggestions for that keyword. These are the suggestions you’d get from a normal Google search.

If you’re ranking for that term, you’ll see SEO metrics next to it. This includes:

• Clicks
• Average CTR
• Impressions
• Position & Position History

If you’re not ranking yet, use this data to identify new content opportunities!

Keyword Ranking Pages

Another much-requested feature we added to the Keyword Rank Tracker is the ability to see which pages rank for a particular keyword. To do this, open the Keyword Rank Tracker » Select a keyword » Keyword Ranking Pages.

For each page ranking for that keyword, you’ll get metrics like:

• Clicks
• Average CTR
• Impressions
• Position
• Position History

This is vital information to help you quickly see which pages are driving traffic for that keyword. As a result, you can optimize them to meet the primary search intent behind that keyword and improve conversions.

Import Keywords from Google Search Console (GSC)

Adding keywords to the Keyword Rank Tracker just got easier! With AIOSEO 4.7.8, you can import relevant keywords from Google Search Console (GSC). All you have to do is click Add Keywords in the Keyword Rank Tracker.

This will open a window where you get options for adding your keywords. Previously, you only had 2 options — import Focus Keywords or a CSV file. But now you also have the option to add keywords from GSC. Doing so will open a window with all the top keywords you’re ranking for on Google. Select the ones you want to track and then click Add Keywords. 

Your selected keywords will then be added to the bulk editor. This is a huge time saver and helps you know which keywords to keep an eye on. It also helps you find new keyword opportunities and create content that ranks.

Post-specific Rank Tracking

Tired of jumping between tools to check the keyword rankings for a particular post?

With AIOSEO 4.7.8, that’s a thing of the past!

You can now check keyword rankings for a specific post inside the WordPress editor.

How, you ask?

In the WordPress editor, scroll down to the AIOSEO settings until you reach the focus keyphrase section. Next, click on the Keyword Rank Tracker icon to open a modal showing you the keywords that particular post is ranking for, not global data.

Want even more insights? 

Then click the Eye icon for full site-wide data on that particular keyword.

Oh, and we added a date range field so you can track rankings over time, too!

With these massive improvements to the Keyword Rank Tracker, there’s definitely no need to waste money on expensive tracking tools!

Support for WooCommerce Product Attributes 

Remember the days when managing WooCommerce attributes took forever?

Well, those days are over, as managing SEO for your WooCommerce store just got much easier! With AIOSEO, you can now:

Set Global Product Attributes Settings

In times past, you had to configure SEO settings for each attribute individually. As can be expected, this was laborious and time-consuming. However, with AIOSEO 4.7.8, you can now apply global product attribute settings. These can be applied site-wide, making it easier to handle product attributes.

 The biggest and most important benefit of this upgrade is that it ensures consistency across your product attributes. And because it’s a much more efficient way, it saves you lots of time while ensuring your product pages are SEO-friendly.

Export Product Attribute Data

Another treat for WooCommerce users is that now you can easily export product attribute data. This can be achieved using the Export/Import tool in the Tools section of the AIOSEO menu.
